Rothfus Statement on the Make America Secure Appropriations Act
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Keith Rothfus [PA-12] released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 3219, the Make America Secure Appropriations Act. H.R. 3219 includes funding provisions from four appropriations bills – Defense, Legislative Branch, Military Construction/Veterans Affairs and Energy and Water. It fully funds a 2.4% military pay raise and $84.3 billion for research and development of new defense technology. Additionally, this bill provides $37.56 billion for nuclear weapons activities and energy and water infrastructure investments and $88.8 billion for military construction and veterans affairs, including new barracks, facilities and hospitals. It also prohibits the closure of the Guantanamo Bay facility, and provides $1.57 billion for physical barrier construction for the Southern border. Finally, this bill requires the President to report to Congress on his strategy to defeat ISIS, al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
“This legislation gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise, helps secure our Southern border against the flow of illegal narcotics and human trafficking, and funds new investments in water and energy infrastructure,” said Congressman Rothfus. “The bill we passed today demonstrates our commitment to keeping the American people safe from unprecedented security threats, as well as our commitment to providing our troops the resources they need to fulfill their missions.”
