Rothfus’ Statement on Farm Bill

WASHINGTON –  Congressman Keith Rothfus (PA-12) released the following statement after H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 failed to pass the House:

“While this bill began necessary reforms to agriculture and nutrition programs, in an era of a nearly $21 trillion national debt, more reforms are needed,” said Congressman Rothfus. “Congress needs to be very careful in how it spends hard-earned taxpayer dollars. This bill was a missed opportunity for serious reforms of agricultural subsidy programs. I offered two bipartisan amendments to limit subsidies flowing to wealthy farmers. Neither of these commonsense amendments were even allowed to be debated on the House floor. Consistent with the position I took against the 2014 Farm Bill, I voted no because we must reform our agricultural programs in a manner that limits exposure to the forgotten men and women in our country: the hardworking taxpayer.”
